Safety systems such as overload protection, emergency stop controls, load moment indicators, boom angle sensors, and electronic monitoring systems can provide additional protection and help operators maintain safe working conditions. In construction, articulated cranes are widely used for transporting and positioning building materials.

A truck carrying bricks, blocks, roofing materials, timber, glass panels, or structural components can use its onboard crane to unload materials directly at the required location. This reduces manual handling and can significantly improve efficiency on projects where materials must be moved repeatedly. Articulated cranes are also valuable for road construction, bridge maintenance, railway projects, and utility installation because their flexible booms can access areas that may not be suitable for larger conventional cranes. In forestry operations, specialized articulated cranes can be used for handling logs, branches, and other materials. The ability to change attachments further expands the usefulness of an articulated crane. This versatility allows businesses to adapt one machine to multiple applications rather than purchasing separate equipment for every material-handling requirement. Technological development has also improved the performance and efficiency of modern articulated cranes. Electronic control systems can provide more accurate boom movements, while remote-control technology allows operators to control the crane from a safe position with a clear view of the load. Remote operation can be particularly useful when the operator needs to stand outside the vehicle or when visibility from the cab is restricted. Some advanced cranes incorporate digital displays that provide information about load weight, boom position, working radius, hydraulic pressure, and operating limits.
